Raising Creative Aspirations

As a small rural-based charity, BlueBoxt is delighted to be part of Youth Music's Incubator Fund programme. Our project is backed by Youth Music thanks to players of the People's Post Code Lottery.

We are seeking to provide quality work placements over six to twelve months for young people who are aged between 18 and 25 years old. If you identify as Disabled, the age range could be extended.

From November 2023, we will be offering four quality professional office and/or homeworking freelance contracts with mentoring support and opportunities to develop personal projects. You will also support the organisation to deliver its annual programme of festivals, events and activities for all ages.

Each role will be a munimum of 350 hours of paid work - an average of one day per week over a six to twelve month period.

The application process is open now and submissions will be considered on a rolling basis, subject to available vacancies.

There will be three stages to the recruitment process:

1) an informal conversation/ video chat with the project lead where you can share your ideas and discuss the job roles available. It is a great opportunity to find out if the organisation will be a good fit for you.

2) you will be invited to prepare a written or recorded expression of interest which explains your career goals, project aspirations, skills and experience. We will work with you and provide the support you need to achieve this.

3) if selected, candidates will be invited to attend a relaxed interview. This will be in person or a video call with representatives from our Trustees and Youth Voice Steering Group.

Each candidate will be considered on their own merits in the order applications are received.

Frequenctly Asked Questions...

This will be my first job so I don't have a lot of experience - is it worth me applying?
Yes, we understand how difficult (and terrifying) it is when starting to build your career. Our placements include regular mentoring and support so we can help you every step of the way. We want you to succeed and enjoy your time with us.

I don't drive - is this a problem?
Not at all. Our placements are perfect for working from home. For some activities it can be better to meet in person but we can look at the best way to do this together as the need arises.

I didn't do very well at school so I don't have great qualifications - does this matter?
It is never too late! School isn't for everyone and should not stop you achieving great things. We can help provide the training and support you need to complete a placement with us.

I am a graduate looking to develop specific skills - can you help?
Yes, each of our placements are designed to develop you as an individual and boost your future employability. Together, we will agree what areas of work you will undertake that help us as an organisation and provide the experience you need to build your portfolio of evidence.

What kind of projects might I be working on?
Current examples include,

> Giving our websites a fresh look. Helping to update the content and structure of the site.

> Managing our facebook and Instagram pages for the different activities and events we offer.

> Creating a contact directory for theatre and arts venues who host productions.

> Designing our next Newsletter.

> Preparing music tracks for performance.

> Recording and editing our next CD.

> Coordinating one of our festivals of creative projects.

I'm not really sure what job I am interested - is there someone I can talk to about my options?
Yes, our placements really are that flexible so you can experience what it is like to work in the performing arts and creative industries. We are happy to mix and match the job roles to best fit your career goals and aspirations.

It sounds too good to be true - what's the catch?
There are none. Our requests are simple - we are looking for trustworthy individuals who want to succeed and who are as excited as we are about the performing arts and the work placements we have available.

We have helped lots of young people to improve as performers and individuals, decide on their study and career options and we want to help you too.

So the question is "Do YOU want to develop a great working relationship with US and see where it leads?"

We offer office and/or home working arrangements. To get the most out of the experience being an integral part of the team in person will help, but we understand that we are based in rural North Yorkshire so this might not be a practical solution.

Mentoring and wellbeing support is available as well as time to develop your personal projects.
